Afsanah’s guest house

The SPV hybrid system at Afsanah's Guest House in the International Township of Auroville, South India, is a perfect example of the versatility of the Quattro Inverter/charger units. At the start of the project in December 2012 the main objective was to silence a 75kVA diesel generator which provided the backup power for the guest house complex including three cottages, seven rooms (all air conditioned) the dining hall and the utility area. A three phase Quattro 10kVA supported by a 48V/1200 Ah battery bank was chosen to bridge the ordinary power cuts and in case of severe power outages start the generator automatically.

Off-grid apartments in The Philippines

Victron Energy is powering two new build apartments in Sabang Puerto Galera, with an off-grid solar system. The development has LED lighting throughout, with timers for the common lighting areas. Apartments also have eco-friendly inverter type refrigerators, ceiling fans and televisions.

Sustainable energy for Lowlands festival

Lowlands is one of the oldest festivals in Dutch history. On  August 15-17 2014, the 22nd edition of Lowlands took place in Biddinghuizen, Flevoland. Here are a few facts to give you a flavour of the festival: 55,000 visitors, 8 music stages, 4 cultural stages, a supermarket and 7 campsites for tents and vans.

Solicase: taking power to the extremes

With over 9,400,000 square kilometres, the Sahara covers most of North Africa. It is the world’s hottest desert and also the setting for the Sultan MDS marathon. This foot race, which is open to runners and walkers, has several stages and covers a distance of around 240 km. Each participant must carry his or her own backpack with food, sleeping gear and other essential equipment. After nearly 30 years, this event continues to be one of the toughest and most challenging events in the world. Naturally medical facilities and a good working communications infrastructure is of utmost importance, to guarantee the wellbeing of the participants.

Education for those in remote locations

Close the Gap, together with Victron Energy distributor Greenlink Energy, are instrumental in improving ICT in rural communities in Africa. To be able to operate independently from an electricity grid Close the Gap, with the help of its partners, have designed the DIGI TRUCK.  

The Digi Truck can best be described as a mobile IT Classroom in a 40’ container. With solar panels on the roof, 2 Victron Energy BlueSolar charge controllers MPPT 150/70, a 3kW MultiPlus and batteries, the integrated system can power all equipment.

Cool playgrounds have a Fono

These days it seems children are spending more and more time inside gaming, rather than outdoors playing. Statistics from Jantje Beton, a Dutch welfare organisation, show 3 out of 10 children hardly play outside at all. In fact a poll on a Dutch news site, for children, shows that playgrounds are not valued as attractive, are boring or are not even available in a neighbourhood. The question that arises then is: how to make playgrounds attractive for teens, so they spend more time outside? The answer could be: the Fono.

Electricity at the highest places

The Andes, 7,000 km long, between 200 to 700 km wide and an average height of about 4,000 meters. With these dimensions it is no wonder the Andes is the longest continental mountain range in the world and the highest mountain range outside Asia. Copiapo is located in Northern Chile, in the Andes, where mining is the largest economic activity. Even at a remote location like Copiapo, electricity is essential.
